Children’s Book: Konstantinos and Athena Go To The Watertown Greek Festival
Konstantinos and Athena couldn't wait for the Greek Festival. They had been counting down the days for weeks. Finally, the day had arrived, and they hopped in a bus with their mom, Eleni, and headed off to the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church.
When they arrived, the air was filled with the aroma of delicious Greek food. They could hear the Levendes Band playing traditional Greek folk songs, and the sound of people laughing and having a good time.
Konstantinos and Athena were excited to see their cousins, and they quickly ran over to say hello. They all decided to try some of the Greek food, and they each picked out their favorites. Konstantinos loved the gyros, while Athena couldn't get enough of the dolmades.
After dinner, they decided to learn the hasapiko, a traditional Greek dance. The Levendes Band played their bouzouki guitars, and Konstantinos and Athena danced along with the rest of the crowd.
As they were dancing, they ran into their friends from the Hosmer School, Armen and Davit. The four of them decided to head to the church basement to play video games.
They spent the rest of the night having fun, playing games, and eating delicious treats. Their cousin Niko even gave them Snap Pops, which they threw on the ground and made loud popping sounds.
When it was time to go home, they walked down Bigelow Avenue and boarded the 71 Bus. As they rode on the bus, they looked out the window and saw all of their favorite places to eat and hang out. There was Dizin Fruttiberri, where they loved to get Persian Ice Cream, Demos Restaurant, where they went to dinner once a week, Tabrizi Bakery, where they liked to get cookies, and Chit Cha, where they liked to get Bubble Tea.
As they got off the bus and walked past Saltonstall Park, Konstantinos and Athena were exhausted but happy. They had a great time at the Greek Festival and couldn't wait to do it all again next year.
Their mom, Eleni, reminded them to say their prayers in Greek before going to bed. They each said their prayers and fell asleep with happy memories of their night at the festival.
