Playgrounds In Pictures: Martin’s Park at the Smith Family Waterfront

This is part of series photographing and reviewing playgrounds and parks in the Boston Metro Area ; playgrounds are an important part of the infrastructure that promotes healthy early childhood development. So far, we have looked at:

In this post, we will focus on Martin’s Park which was created in memory of Martin Richard who was the youngest victim of the Boston Marathon bombing. The park sits right next to the Boston Children’s Museum and opened in 2019. It is one of the more remarkable playgrounds I have seen. It sits right in a busy part of the city, but entering the playground has an effect of being in a peaceful playful l oasis. There is a great number of trees around the park and natural materials like large stones, rocks, plants, and more for children to interact with. The play areas are covered by a very spongy surface that protects children from serious injuries. Moreover, the park features several great features like rock climbing, large slides, climbing structures, swings, a cool ship for children to explore, and more. Check out pictures of the park below.
