“Smart From The Start’s” 10 Year Anniversary Celebration will Be Thursday, October 25, 2018, from 6:30-10:00 PM at the Boston Center For The Arts Cyclorama

Below is an email I am passing along from my friend and past professor John Lippitt about the upcoming 10th anniversary fundraiser for Smart from the Start

“As you may know, I am a Board Member of Smart from the Start, a family support, community engagement, and school readiness program with a mission to ensure school readiness for Boston’s lowest income children. Smart from the Start (“Smart”) empowers families and communities with resources, tools, and supports to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and chronic school underachievement. Smart currently operates at 25 different program sites in Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, South End, Charleston, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, South Boston, and now Woodland Terrace in Washington, D.C. serving over 2,000 children birth to five and nearly 4,000 additional adult caregivers and school age siblings. Our website features compelling stories of the work done by Smart.

I’m serving as a Smart Board Member because I believe, as I know you do, that supporting early childhood development is not just about programs for young children, but also about programs that support families as well. Smart delivers a comprehensive service model that includes developmental supports for young children, and also GED classes, adult literacy, financial literacy, job training, and nutritional programs. It promotes community involvement through the “Community Unity Partnership Initiative” which places “play-to-learn” play spaces and book giveaway stations in neighborhood businesses frequented by our target families.

This year, Smart is celebrating its tenth birthday and we are planning a 10th Anniversary Celebration and fundraising event on . More information about the event is available here, along with ticket purchasing.

I hope you can attend this wonderful event for a very worthy organization that creates lasting change for Boston's most vulnerable children. Tickets are $200 and will help ensure that Smart can continue to provide services and supports that are truly life-changing for the children and families with whom we work. You can purchase tickets here.

The theme of the evening is a celebration of the communities where Smart from the Start is working with young children and their families. We anticipate having 250 people in attendance and our guests will enjoy delicious food from local community chefs, live music, and a fundraising auction.

Please contact me with any questions. I hope you will support Smart’s critically important work by buying a ticket and attending this event! Please encouraging your friends and colleagues to do so as well!”

THANK YOU!

Sincerely,

John
