Dear Parents, If you want to get your child’s preschool teacher a gift, cash is the best option

First off, you are under no obligation or expectation to get your child’s preschool teacher a gift. We understand that money is perpetually tight. In addition, we will do our best to give your child the best care and education possible whether you get us a gift for the holidays or not.

That being said, if you do want to give your child’s preschool teacher a gift, cash is the best way to go.

Low pay is a huge problem in the field:

Many people who work in early childhood education and care, struggle to pay their bills  and for life’s basics.

Obviously, giving a box of Godiva Chocolate is nice and we appreciate those types of gifts too. However, the $20 that box of chocolate cost may be more useful helping pay Verizon/Sallie Mae/rent/mortgage. And heck if we really want some chocolate more than anything else, we could buy it with the cash anyway.

On a related side note, advocating for better pay for early childhood educators also is much appreciated.
