“Google Trends” Analytics Shows A Consistent Rising Interest In Pre-K

When we want to learn more about something, most people’s first step is googling it. Using Google Trends to see how often something is searched for is one way to determine when there is rising or lessening interest in a topic. I recently used google trends to analyze how often the phrases “Pre-K” and “Pre-Kindergarten” were searched for from 2004-2018. ( see both charts below)

While there are up and downs for both search terms within each year with the most searches in middle of August and the least number in late December, the consistent trend is that every year since 2004 there are more people searching for Prek and Pre-Kindergarten on google. This most likely correlates to both a greater demand from parents for Prek and an increased interest by policy makers, educators, and researchers in Prek.

Prek advocates should continue our work to build on this momentum of rising interest in Prek.
