Harvard Graduate School Of Education’s Zaentz Professional Learning Academy Should Lower Their Prices

The Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) recently launched” The Saul Zaentz Early Education Initiative which is supported by a $35.5 million gift from the Saul Zaentz Charitable Foundation, one of the largest gifts ever given to a university for advancing early childhood education.”

This was a very generation donation and as a member of the early childhood education (ECE) community I appreciate the size of the donation and attention HGSE is giving ECE of late. In addition, the Zaentz Professional Learning Academy has created some great programs for early education leaders such as the ones listed below:

Leading for Early Learning and Development CEEL Series 1

TUITION:

$199 per person/module

$895 per person/series

Managing Behavior: Alternatives to Early Childhood Suspensions and Expulsions

 $199 per person

Building Cornerstone Educator Competencies to Drive Quality Improvement

 $199 per person

All these events look great and I hope they are attended by early education leaders of all stripes from advocates, directors, politicians, and educators. However, I fear that these cost to much which will limit both directors of programs who are often not paid well and educators who are paid even less ability to attend. While $199 is not an astronomical sum, for many people in ECE it is a large chunk of money; this may make many people who both can learn from attending these events and give the events themselves a greater diversity of perspectives not attend the events due to financial reasons. Thus, I hope Education’s Zaentz Professional Learning Academy considers lowering their prices to make it easier for a wider array of people in the ECE field to attend these events.
